Helmut Wiedeman at the tomb of Avicenna, Hamedan, Iran

At the beginning of fall this year, the Synchrotron Society suffered a terrible loss. After decades of contribution to accelerator sciences, professor Helmut Wiedemann passed away on the morning of September 23rd 2020.

Since the very early stages of the ILSF project we have learned and benefited from the unique experiences and vast knowledge of this great scientist. Indeed, we feel grateful to have known Helmut and fortunate to have had him as a member of ILSF Machine Advisory Committee. Prof. Wiedemann was hosted by ILSF during nine different scientific and technical events (held over a period from 2010 through to 2015) and laid the foundation of particle accelerator sciences in Iran for the first time. We feel deeply honored that Iranian Light Source Facility was one of the last among a dozen of particle accelerators, in which prof. Wiedemann contributed to the technical design.
